Central Highlands Kon Tum province, located in a strategic position at the junction of the borderline and the East-West corridor linking to a system of eastern sea ports, has many advantages to create a breakthrough in economic development, said State President Tran Duc Luong.

The leader worked with local authorities and met army units and ethnic people during a visit to Kon Tum from March 28-30. He paid attention to the implementation of the Party's resolutions and State policies on socio-economic development, poverty reduction and improvement of ethnic people's living conditions.

He also inquired into the province's forest protection and development, expansion of  the irrigation system, removal of residences from hydro-electric power project sites, and security maintenance.

Mr Luong was pleased to see that Kon Tum has brought into play advantages to narrow the development gap between the province and other provinces in the Central Highlands and across the country.

He asked relevant ministries and services to step up the upgrade of the transport infrastructure system, including Ho Chi Minh highway and Highway 14 connecting central coastal provinces and Bo Y border economic zone.

The leader urged ministries and branches to work out preferential policies to draw investment, including foreign investment, to exploit Kon Tum's potential for industrial production, particularly farm and forest produce processing and rural infrastructure development.

He said Kon Tum should uphold the revolutionary tradition and spirit of great solidarity to obtain higher and sustainable growth in the next ten years.
