Vietnam to host first chess tournament for international grandmasters

VOV.VN - The 2021 Grand Ho Tram Chess Tournament, the nation’s first chess event specifically for international grandmasters, is scheduled to get underway in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau from March 10 to 17.

The event is being jointly organised by the Vietnam Administration of Sports and Physical Training and the Grand Ho Tram complex, with 22 chess players set to compete in the tournament, including eight female players.

The international grandmasters set to participate in the occasion will all have an Elo rating between 2,200 and 2,400 as awarded by the international chess governing body FIDE.

Each male contestant is due to play seven matches, whilst the female players will compete in a round robin format.

The winner of the men’s category will receive a cash prize of VND200 million, while the female champion will be awarded a prize of VND100 million.
