Vietnam stresses closer cooperation at 2021 Boao forum for Asia

VOV.VN - Vietnamese State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc has stressed the need to ramp up cooperation to address global challenges, including COVID-19 and climate change, at the 2021 Boao forum for Asia taking place in China.

No country can solve these difficulties alone, and only cooperation and solidarity can bring about success, Phuc told the forum which saw the participation of heads of state and government of many Asian countries, as well as economic experts, scholars and businesspeople in the region.

According to the Vietnamese head of State, countries need to take joint actions for inclusive, sustainable and safe development for all.

He suggested that countries promote cooperation in disease prevention and control, and ensure their accessibility to vaccines at reasonable costs. In addition, countries should achieve their macroeconomic stability, facilitate trade and investment, maintain supply chains, promote production and create employment.

It is necessary to mobilize resources for sustainable and inclusive economic development towards realizing the sustainable development goals set for 2030, while building synchronous infrastructure and developing human resources for digital transformation, Phuc stressed.

The president highlighted major developments in the Vietnam-China relations in recent times, saying both countries are close neighbours that have worked closely together to halt the COVID-19 pandemic, maintain economic growth and become bright spots in the overall regional and global picture.

He voiced Vietnam’s desires to promote comprehensive, effective, equal, and mutually beneficial cooperation with China, so as to successfully contain the COVID-19 pandemic, maintain an environment of peace and stability and develop bilateral relations more positively and effectively.

The 2021 Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) kicked off in Boao, a coastal resort in South China's Hainan Province on April 18 on the theme of “A World in Change: Join Hands to Strengthen Global Governance and Advance Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) Cooperation.”

The four-day event is set to look at the world economy in 2021, changes in the structure of international trade, science and technology development, digital transformation, economic and trade connectivity, support for the business community, and response to epidemics and climate change, among other issues.
