President Quang wishes for stronger ties with Micronesia

At a June 8 reception for the top Micronesian legislator, President Quang said Vietnam places importance on developing the friendly relations and multifaceted cooperation with Micronesia and welcomes every effort of the two sides’ ministries, agencies and localities to further step up cooperation. 

Quang suggested two countries build cooperation mechanisms and sign framework agreements to lay a foundation for their partnership, such as agreements on investment protection, double taxation avoidance and technical cooperation towards enhancing bilateral economic, trade and investment ties.

The two countries need to facilitate trade in farm produce, consumer goods, agricultural machinery, and promote investment in infrastructure, tourism and telecommunications while bolstering ties in promising fields such as agriculture, aquaculture, fishing, seafood processing, tourism, oil and gas exploration and exploitation, and education-training, the Vietnamese State leader said.

He assured Vietnam’s willingness to share experience with Micronesia in rice farming and aquaculture, which are Vietnam’s strengths. 

Praising Micronesia’s support for Vietnam at regional and global forums, President Quang urged Micronesia to back Vietnam’s candidacy as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2020-2021 tenure. 

Wesley Simina said his visit is designed to strengthen delegation exchange visits at all levels between the two law-making bodies, adding that his nation desires to increase cooperation in fields of Vietnam’s strength such as agriculture, marine-based economy and education-training. 

He thanked Vietnam for helping Micronesia with climate change adaptation and said his delegation had got experience in socio-economic and tourism development during their visits to Vietnamese localities such as Hai Phong, Hanoi, Lao Cai and Ho Chi Minh City.

The Micronesian guest said he hopes that both side will promote collaboration among localities and people-to-people exchange and he affirmed his nation’s support for Vietnam’s efforts to run for a non-permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council in the 2020-2021 tenure.
