Vietnam, South Africa hold Defence Policy Dialogue

(VOV) - On November 17, a high-ranking delegation led by Sen. Lieut. Gen. Nguyen Chi Vinh, Deputy Defence Minister and their counterparts from South Africa headed by Dr. SM Gulube Secretary for Defence conducted the Vietnam-South Defence Policy Dialogue 2015 in Hanoi.

The two sides compared notes on the regional situation and defense policies of each country, reviewed bilateral defence cooperation over recent years, and outlined orientations for future cooperation.

Accordingly, they agreed to promote exchange visits at all levels and personnel training, share peace-keeping experience and spur cooperation in the defense industry based on the strengths of the two countries.

The Defence Policy Dialogue 2015 demonstrates the effective implementation of national defence agreements signed by the Vietnam Ministry of Defence and the Defence Ministry of South Africa in 2006 as well as the contents exchanged at the third Vietnam - South Africa Partnership Forum held in June 2015 which has contributed to boosting defence cooperation between the two nations, they said.

Dr. SM Gulube in turn affirmed that the people of South Africa will always stand side by side with the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA) to consolidate and further develop this sound relationship.

Sen. Lieut. Gen. Nguyen Chi Vinh congratulated South Africa on the tremendous achievements recoded across a variety of fields- economics, politics, diplomacy, defence, security and praised South Africa's rising status reflected in its major contributions to peacekeeping activities in Africa and its greater role in international organizations.

Following the dialogue, Vinh and Dr. SM Gulube signed a document on the organization of the Vietnam- South Africa Defence Policy Dialogue.
