ASEAN youth to discuss how to preserve culture amid integration

Youth representatives from seven ASEAN member countries will gather in HCM City on September 17 to present their thoughts and ideas and suggest recommendations for building the ASEAN Community.

The three-day ASEAN Youth Forum will feature 24 participants from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam, who will discuss the role of young people in the integration of the community.

The forum titled ASEAN Community – Cultural Identity is an opportunity for the youths to improve their awareness of preserving cultural identities post-integration yet join hands to build a united ASEAN community and enhance mutual understanding.

The youths will be divided into three groups to discuss improving awareness of cultural values, preservation and promotion of cultural heritages, and promoting creativity and cultural industries.

They will be taken on visits to the Museum of History and Nguyen Hue Walking Street, attend a banquet with city leaders and see a water puppet show.

The ASEAN Economic Community will be established at the end of this year.

According to the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union's HCM City Chapter, the forum organiser, the participants, all aged between 18 and 30, are "average" youths.
