Hanoi’s consumer price index (CPI) in February increased by 1.45 percent compared to the previous month, the fourth consecutive rise in the past four months.

This is also the first month in the past six months that the figure has surpassed the 1 percent mark, mostly driven by restaurant services, housing and construction materials.

The price of food increased very slightly while foodstuffs saw a sharp rise of nearly 3 percent above last month. The price of gas also soared sharply during the Lunar New Year festival.

However, the February CPI figure was relatively low compared to between 2 to 4 percent recorded in February in recent years, except for February 2009 when CPI only rose 0.99 percent.
