The Dung Quat Shipbuilding Industry Corporation on October 30 began building a 104,000 dead-weight-tonnage oil tanker - Dung Quat 01 - the largest of its kind in Vietnam so far.

Construction work based on Polish technology will be supervised by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS). The tanker, which is 245m long, 43m wide and 20m high, will be handed over to the Vien Duong Maritime Transport Corporation in late March 2008.

The same day, the two corporations signed a contract to build two 54,000DWT freighters.
