The Electricity of Vietnam Group (EVN) has submitted a US$102-million project on rural telecommunication development to the Ministry of Industry and Trade for approval.

The project aims to boost the popularisation of Internet and telecommunication services in rural areas with limited access through improving the Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) network in about 300 rural districts in 35 provinces and cities.

Around 63 percent of the project’s total investment (over US$64.46 million) will come from official development assistance (ODA) loan funded by the Chinese Government, and the remaining will be donated by EVN.

At present, the CDMA electricity telecom network has covered all 64 provinces and cities nationwide with more than 1 million subscribers.
