Vietnam reaffirms fine neighbourly relationship with Cambodia
VOV.VN - State President Vo Van Thuong affirmed Vietnam’s consistent policy of valuing good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, and comprehensive and long-term sustainable cooperation with Cambodia, during his meeting with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet in Beijing on October 18.
Thuong congratulated Hun Manet on being recently elected Prime Minister of Cambodia, and expressed his belief that Cambodia would develop prosperously with increasing role and position in the region and the wider world.
The two leaders noted with satisfaction the extensive development of the relationship between Vietnam and Cambodia in recent times, reaping many important achievements in the fields of politics - diplomacy, defense-security, trade - investment, education - training, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.
The President proposed that the two sides increase delegation exchanges at all levels, effectively implement reached agreements, and promote cooperation, especially in connecting the two economies and in training human resources. He also asked the Cambodian side to create the best possible conditions for the Vietnamese community in Cambodia to reside stably and legally in their host country.
Hun Manet for his part stressed the importance of the tripartite meeting between the leaders of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, and suggested the three countries maintain this mechanism to connect the three economies, with a primary focus on trade, investment, tourism cooperation, as well as strengthening cooperation within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
Hun Manet agreed that the two sides need to strengthen cultural exchanges and expand tourism cooperation, and people-to-people exchanges.
The two leaders agreed that both Vietnam and Cambodia still have a lot of room and potential to further strengthen economic cooperation, infrastructure and transport connectivity, while considering opening more international border gates.
They held that both countries strengthen security - defense cooperation as one of the pillars of the relationship, in order to ensure stability, safety, and security along shared borders. They also expressed their resolve to strive to soon complete the remaining land border demarcation work now at 84%.
Thuong conveyed Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s invitation to visit Vietnam to Prime Minister Hun Manet, and the invitation was accepted with pleasure.
