Deputy Prime Minister Truong Vinh Trong, who heads the steering committee for the northwestern region, has asked Lai Chau province to make a greater effort to become more prosperous.

Mr Trong said during his visit to Lai Chau on March 8-9 that the province needs to seek new animal breeds and plant varieties to develop cultivation and animal husbandry for export. It should create better environment for investors to do their business successfully, he said.

Furthermore, he added, Lai Chau needs to accurately reckon the number of poor households, calculate the extent of forest coverage and pay due attention to the welfare of its people, including households from five disadvantaged ethnic minorities, namely La Hu, Mang, Cong, Sila and Kh’mu.

He stressed the need to keep the disadvantaged district of Muong Te connected to other districts in terms of traffic, especially in the monsoon season.

The senior official, who is also a Politburo member, visited and inspected some sections of the national highway network and key construction projects in the province.
