The Vietnamese garment sector has restored its growth rate, according to Japanese newspaper Nihon Keizai.
The newspaper said the country’s total garment export value reached US$175 billion in the first four months of this year, up 39 percent compared to the same period last year. Exports of items such as jackets and underwear to the EU and Canada also achieved positive growth. Early last year, when WTO member countries decided to remove garment quotas, Vietnamese garment exports to the EU and the US faced a number of challenges, as they found it difficult to compete with the same items from China and India. This year Vietnamese garment exports are bouncing back.
