Truong Sa, Hoang Sa exhibition launched in Hanoi

(VOV) -An exhibition entitled “Vietnam’s Hoang Sa, Truong Sa – Historical Evidence” opened in Hanoi on July 9, displaying nearly 150 maps and documents affirming Vietnam’s sovereignty over the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos.

The exhibits include copies of classical Chinese, Vietnamese, and French language documents issued by Vietnamese feudal states from the 17th to early 20th centuries; 95 maps published by Vietnam, China and Western countries from as early as the 16th century; and three atlases published by China in 1908, 1919, and 1933.

A number of 18th–19th century Western publications and Vietnamese documents from the late 19th  to mid-20th centuries relating to Vietnam’s indisputable sovereignty over the two archipelagos—as well as photos featuring their recent socio-economic and cultural development—are also on display at the exhibition.

Deputy Minister of Information and Communication Do Quy Doan’s speech described the documents and maps as historical and legal evidence proving Vietnam’s sovereignty over the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos in the East Sea.

Vietnam wants to show both locals and international friends that from a very early period until present day, Vietnamese states have exercised their sovereignty over the two archipelagos in accordance with international law.

It is also a chance to encourage patriotism and awareness regarding the defence of sea and island sovereignty, particularly in younger generations, he added.
