Draft working reports demonstrate candid, responsible spirit: voters

Most voters have lauded the candid and responsible spirit reflected in the working reports presented by the National Assembly Chairman, the President and the Prime Minister during the second day of the legislature’s 11th meeting.

Hoang Quynh Ngan from the Thai Nguyen province Union of Science and Technology Associations told Vietnam News Agency that NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung’s draft report highlighted deputies’ roles and responsibilities for national development.

The report also summed up major lessons learned by the NA in its capacity as the country’s law-making body and supreme supervision agency, which represents people’s opinions, she said.

According to voters, the legislature has frankly pointed to deputies’ limitations and shortcomings in law-making, supervision and the realisation of resolutions, policies and laws issued by the NA.

Ngan noted his hope that the upcoming election of deputies to the 14 th National Assembly and all-level People’s Councils will select those who soundly represent people’s will and aspirations, to make timely decisions on macro-economic management, political stability and the protection of territorial integrity – especially the preservation of national seas and islands.

Assessing the law-making body’s performance for 2011-2016, Pham Quang Y from Da Lat city in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong said over the past tenure, the NA approved various draft laws, amended the Constitution and revamped its operation.

Thanks to the efforts of the Party, the Government and the legislature, Vietnam has transformed from an under-developed country to a middle-income nation, he said.

Commenting on President Truong Tan Sang’s report, Ngan said the document reviewed the leader’s successes in foreign relations, contributing to expanding Vietnam’s international relations and elevating its role and position in the world arena.

Voters expressed her hope that the President will continue to pursue the Party’s foreign policy and expand cooperation with countries worldwide.

Nguyen Thi Van from the Vietnam Journalists’ Association commended the Government’s achievements in regulating socio-economic development, ensuring social welfare and maintaining national security and defence.

Over the past five years, under the close management of Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, the national economy has been stabilised and is gearing towards sustainable stability, she said, praising the leader’s guidelines in opening up the market in line with international commitments, helping raise productivity and bringing the economy’s strengths into full play.

Van voiced her hope for more comprehensive and focused solutions to macro-economic management, in order to handle issues regarding bad debts and economic restructuring, especially the equitisation of State-owned enterprises.

Nguyen Quang Chung, a businessman from the northern province of Thai Nguyen, said apart from attainments, the PM’s report also mentioned limitations and weaknesses in socio-economic development management as the root of many problems.

Echoing Chung’s views, Ya Tuan, Vice President of Don Duong district Fatherland Front Committee in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong, pointed to high poverty rates in disadvantaged areas, ineffective investment projects and the complications of social evils in major cities.

He suggested the Government pay more attention to upgrading fresh water and irrigation facilities to serve daily activities and agricultural production in remote, far-flung and ethnic minority-inhabited regions.
