April 19 COVID-19 update: Infections exceed 2,000 case mark

VOV.VN - Vietnam logged 2,159 fresh coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, an increase of 537 cases compared to the previous day, the Ministry of Health said in its coronavirus update on April 19.

This is the highest number of coronavirus infections Vietnam has recorded on a daily basis over the past six months, said the ministry.

Also according to the report, 209 patients recovered from the disease on April 189.

Notably, the number of patients relying on mechanical ventilation has increased considerably over the past few days. Currently, 111 cases are in need of the therapy at medical facilities nationwide.

Vietnam has so far logged more than 11.5 million coronavirus cases, ranking 13th out of 230 countries and territories worldwide.

Of the total, over 10.6 million sufferers have recovered from the disease, and 43,186 people have died of the virus and underlying illnesses.

More than 266 million vaccine doses have been administered to people of all ages nationwide.

Amid a rise in COVID-19 infection in the community, localities, including Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, requested residents to abide by COVID-19 prevention and control measures, including wearing a face mask and taking disinfection practice, especially in public places.
