How many localities with SARS-Cov-2 virus emergence in Vietnam?

VOV.VN - The SARS-CoV-2 virus has spread to 13 cities and provinces across Vietnam since it recurred late last month, with 555 cases confirmed.

Ten northern cities and provinces have reported the emergence of the virus, with Hai Duong becoming the biggest coronavirus hotspot in the country.  

The province, a gateway to Hanoi, has so far recorded 383 locally transmitted cases, representing 69% of the country’s total number during the fresh outbreak.  

Nine other northern provinces with infection cases are Quang Ninh (59), Hanoi (30), Bac Ninh (5), Dien Bien (3), Bac Giang (2), Hung Yen (2), Hoa Binh (2), Ha Giang (1), and Hai Phong (1).  

With 27 confirmed cases, Gia Lai is the only locality in the Central Highlands that has reported the emergence of the virus.  

Elsewhere in the south, Ho Chi Minh City has recorded 34 cases while its neighbour, Binh Duong province, has detected 6 cases.  

Notably, northern patients were infected with mutated variant B.1.1.7 originating from the United Kingdom, while the African variant A.23.1 was found in several cases in HCM City.  

Vietnamese people are celebrating a 7-day long lunar New Year break. The Ministry of Health has encouraged people to strictly follow medical recommendations, including wearing face masks and avoiding large gatherings, in an effort to contain the fresh outbreak.
