COVID-19: Nearly 4,000 new cases detected, tally rises to 87,000 in Vietnam
VOV.VN - As many as 3,991 people have tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus in 19 cities and provinces across Vietnam during the past 12 hours, raising the cumulative tally of infections in the country to 86,957.
Of the new patients, 3,987 were detected locally, mostly in southern localities, according to the Ministry of Health (MoH) in its 06.00am on July 24.
Ho Chi Minh City took the lead, registering 2,070 cases alone, followed by Long An 604, Binh Duong 523, Tien Giang 220, Tay Ninh 132, and Dong Nai 122.
Other southern localities recording ten to tens of new locally acquired infections were Ben Tre 52, Dong Thap 29, Vinh Long 25, and Kien Giang 14.
In the central region, the number of newly detected cases in Khanh Hoa increased double the figure recorded 12 hours earlier. Elsewhere, 36 new cases were reported in Da Nang, 12 in Phu Yen and three in Dak Lak.
In the northern region, Vinh Phuc registered the highest number, at 18, followed by Hanoi 5, and Hung Yen 4.
The MoH also announced four imported cases returning from overseas. These patients were placed in quarantine upon their arrival, posing no risk to the community.
Data from the MoH show Vietnam has logged 83,242 new cases in 62 out of 63 cities and provinces following the resurgence of the virus in late April, and 86,957 cases since the onset of the first outbreak in the country.
Nearly 13,000 patients have recovered from the disease, and 370 patients have died of COVID-19 and underlying illnesses.
Close to 4.5 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccines have been administered nationwide, with 353,601 people receiving the second shot.
