World media highlight Vietnamese Party leader’s visit to Japan
The official visit to Japan by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong continued to make headlines in the international press, including Japan.
World media have highlighted the visit as fruitful which opened up new and promising cooperation opportunities between Vietnam and Japan as well as strengthened the bilateral extensive strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia.
The Nikkei news website ran an article hailing the visit for embracing the connections between the two economies, illustrated by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Japan’s Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group and Vietjet Aviation (Vietjet Air) to cooperate in the civil aviation business in Vietnam during the four-day visit of the Party General Secretary.
Meanwhile, the JCN Newswire took note of the conclusion of a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) on human resources development for machinery industries between Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) and Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training.
Under the MOC, the MHI will establish and continue to support scholarship programmes for Vietnamese students as well as offer internship programmes and opportunities for students to master advanced technologies, the article said.
The Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper ran an article highlighting the Vietnamese Party chief’s activities in Japan.
It underlined that General Secretary Trong discussed with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe measures to enhance cooperation in various fields, including navigation security.
In the joint statement, the two leaders shared deep concern over the current situation in the East Sea and expressed their hope that any disputes would be resolved in line with international law.
At meetings between the Vietnamese Party leader and Japanese officials, the two sides agreed to boost economic connections. Japan’s expanded investments in and exports to Vietnam will be useful for Japan’s growth strategy, the article said.
The article also pointed to Japan’s commitment to supporting Vietnam to build and upgrade transport and hospital infrastructure. The two countries are working closely to reach the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) Agreement, enhancing mutual benefits and deepening the bilateral strategic partnership inclusively across security, economics and society, it added.

The article remarked that Vietnam and Japan share strategic interest in tightening bilateral relations, adding that General Secretary Trong‘s visit also demonstrates Vietnam’s diplomatic policy of independence, multilateralisation and diversification in international integration.
