Czech based midfielder to join national team

The Vietnam Football Federation has invited Vietnamese Czech midfielder Michal Nguyen to train with the national team.

The national squad will meet together for the first time this year in Hanoi on January 23.

Nguyen, 24, currently plays for Czech 2 Liga side Banik Most. He was raised in the Czech Republic by his Vietnamese father and Czech mother.

He is 1.79m tall and can also operate at the heart of defence. He started playing football at an early age and was coached at Spartak Praha's training centre, where he won many admirers.

Mai Duc Chung, a member of Vietnam's National Coaching Council, has met with Nguyen and observed him play. He has praised the player's technique and confirmed he could potentially play a key role for the national team.

Nguyen's father confirmed that his son holds a Vietnamese passport and said he has cherished a dream of playing for Vietnam.

VFF officials have declared that they always welcome talented players living overseas to return and play for the country.
