Vietnam National Assembly to have new leader on Mar. 31

VOV.VN - The National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee introduced Vuong Dinh Hue, Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee, to run for the new chairperson of the NA during the ongoing NA session held on March 30.

His candidacy for the leading post of the legislative body was introduced after NA deputies voted to dismiss incumbent NA chief Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan from her position in accordance with the law following the completion of her term.

Moving forward, deputies are scheduled to discuss the nomination as a group before voting on March 31.

Following this, the new NA chief will be sworn in on the same day.

At 64 years old, Vuong Dinh Hue is a prominent member of the Political Bureau, the supreme policymaking body of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

Born in Nghe An province, the politician has previous held a number of key positions in various State agencies, including State Auditor General, Minister of Finance, and Deputy Prime Minister, before being appointed by the Politburo to the position of Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee in February 2020.

He was then elected to the post of Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee last year at the Committee’s 17th Party Congress for the 2020 - 2025 tenure.

Through his leadership, Hanoi has been able to beat all targets set by the previous 16th Congress of the Municipal Party Committee. Indeed, the capital has managed to deal with various shortcomings in terms of construction of local infrastructure, traffic development, and social management, thereby winning the trust of local people.

The capital has adopted plenty of drastic measures in an effort to competently halt the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, with the latest outbreak being successfully brought under control.
