Vietnam claims six gold medals at Asian Youth Chess Championships

VOV.VN - Le Phan Hoang Quan brought home a gold medal in the boys’ U8 standard event on the final competition day, raising the total number of medals to six golds at the Asian Youth Chess Championships 2023 held in Al Ain of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on December 22.

With an impressive performance achieved over nine rounds, he accumulated a total of eight points, including seven wins and two draws, securing the top position and the gold medal.

In the same boys’ U8 standard event, his teammate Nguyen Xuan Phuong ranked third and got a bronze medal.

In the team rankings, Vietnamese chess players came first to take home the gold medal.

This comes after the Vietnamese youth chess team excelled at the Asian tournament while claiming three individual gold medals in the blitz chess category, as well as one individual gold medal in the rapid category.

The Asian Youth Chess Championships 2023 began on December 12 and wrapped up on December 22, with the event featuring participants from 41 countries and territories worldwide.

The nation fielded a team of 48 players across various age groups, with this tournament being significant for the young players as it is the final important competition of the year.
