A Dao ethnic woman from the northern border province of Quang Ninh who tested positive for the deadly bird flu virus (H5N1 strain) died in the provincial general hospital on February 21, according to hospital doctors.  

Ly Tai Mui, 23, was admitted to the provincial hospital on February 3 with symptoms of high fever, low blood pressure and breathing difficulty. Results of later tests carried out by the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology showed that she was infected with the deadly strain H5N1 of the bird flu virus.

On her family’s request, the patient was brought back to her hometown: Na Cang village, Quang An commune, Dam Ha district, for burial.  

This was the first bird flu patient in Quang Ninh Province.
