Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai has urged localities to evacuate people to safe areas and to help vessels and boats to anchor to minimise losses caused by the storm.

Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Cao Duc Phat who is also head of the National Steering Committee for Storm and Flood Prevention and Control and some representatives from relevant ministries and agencies on November 23 made an inspection tour of south-central Khanh Hoa province to check storm Hagibis prevention work.

The Deputy PM asked the chairman of the provincial people’s committee to direct evacuation, ban vessels and fishermen from setting out to sea and other activities off the coastline until the storm blows over. Localities must rally human resources and the necessary equipment to cope with the storm.

The Khanh Hoa provincial people’s committee said that all people in danger areas were evacuated before 6pm on November 23. They have taken extensive preventive measures and constantly updated information about the storm movement. So far, the province has evacuated around 1,590 households along the rivers and in coastal areas.

Earlier, a Government delegation led by Deputy PM Hai made a working visit to south-central Ninh Thuan province. He urged the province to keep a close watch on rain and to regulate floodwaters in order to mitigate damage to property and loss of human life.

On the afternoon of November 23, all vessels and boats off Ninh Thuan province found shelter. Localities are gearing up for storm prevention work, especially in dykes and key projects.
