The 13th World Conference of the League of Historical Cities (LHC) is being held in the central city of Hue from April 16-18.

More than 300 domestic mayors and experts from different countries are focused on discussing solutions to preserve, exploit and develop the heritage values of historical cities as well as the relationship between preservation and development in the integration process.

Huynh Vinh Ai, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said Vietnam has plenty of unique natural and cultural heritages to be protected and honoured in different ways.

UNESCO has recognized the country’s 13 tangible and intangible cultural heritages of humanity, two heritages of memory of the world register and eight world biosphere reserves, he added.

Ai said the negative impact of urbanization and nature has devalued heritage sites in historical cities and there is high hope that the League of Historical Cities will put forward a new set of proposals to help preserve heritage values.

A youth forum, a workshop and a round-table discussion will be held as part of the conference.

The League of Historical Cities is an international organization which consists of 91 member cities from 56 countries in the world aims to exchange technical information, policies and socio-economic solutions for the benefit of mankind development.

Eight mayors from the member cities have been appointed to its executive board chaired by Kyoto Mayor Daisaku Kadokawa.
