Laos officially opened a Vietnam-funded sports training centre on January 19 in preparation for the 25th SEA Games, scheduled to take place in Vientiane late this year.

The National Sports Training Centre covering 117,000 sq. m was completed after one year of construction with an initial investment of US$4 million.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Lao Deputy Prime Minister Somsavat Lengsavad thanked the Vietnamese government and its people for their prompt assistance and stressed that the centre, the first of its kind so far in Laos, will contribute significantly to a successful hosting of the 25th SEA Games in Laos.

Vietnamese Vice Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Danh Thai and other representatives from different Vietnamese ministries and relevant agencies were present on the occasion.
