Ho Chi Minh City earned more than US$1 billion in February, bringing the total export value in the past two months to US$2.17 billion, up 6.1 percent and 24 percent, respectively, compared to the same period last year. Import value was US$474 million in February and US$943 million in the past two months.

Such prosperous figures were reported by the municipal Department of Trade at a meeting with the city’s leaders.


Total export value in the trade and services sector increased by 18.6 percent in February, especially in the foreign invested sector (by 35.6 percent), in the private sector (by 17.8 percent) and in the State-owned sector (by 19.6 percent).


The tourism sector’s turnover also rose by 38.8 percent. The city received 240,000 tourists, up 52 percent, while nearly 57,000 Ho Chi Minh City people went abroad for holiday, up 80 percent.


Transport turnover went up 15 percent while industrial production value maintained high growth. Budget collections and spending were also on the rise.
