Belgian author meets Vietnamese readers

(VOV) -Famous Belgian writer Nicolas Ancion will meet with Vietnamese fans at Hanoi’s Manzi Art Space on January 20.

The Wallonie-Bruxelles delegation in Vietnam and the Nha Nam Publishing and Communications Joint Stock Company jointly organised the event.

Prospective readers will be introduced to a selection of his works including The 35 Billion Euro Man—a novel that won the 2009 Victor Rossel Young Readers Award and was recognised for advancing Belgian literature written in French.

The novel explores the fictional abduction of Arceltor Mittal Group CEO Lakshimi Mittal, one of the world’s richest men. It was adapted for the theatre in 2011 and for film in 2012.

Ancion will discuss the influences of translated literature in Vietnam, especially as it pertains to younger generations.

The author will also talk with students from Hanoi University and other universities from January 21–23, focusing on Michel de Ghelderode and his play La Cravate de Simenon (Simenon’s Tie).

Born in Liege in 1971 to professional puppeteer parents, Ancion studied Romance Philology at the University of Liege before beginning his career as a playwright and short story writer.

He was awarded the International Prize for Young Authors in 1989 and 1991. His first novel, Ciel Bleu trop Bleu (Blue Sky Too Blue), was released by Switzerland’s Hebe Publishing House in 1995.

He followed it with a series of novels and poetry that earned prestigious prizes both in Belgium and internationally.

During the 2010 Brussels Book Fair, Ancion publicly wrote a novel in 24 hours. He regularly uses the internet to share his writing live.
