Korean tourism industry supports Vietnamese athletes

(VOV) -A fundraising drive in the Republic of Korea (RoK) was launched on April 2 to support the participation of Vietnamese athletes in the 2014 Asian Games and Asian Para Games, scheduled to get underway in Incheon, later this year.

The event, sponsored by – The Korean Tourism Organization (KTO) – drew the participation of many airlines, travel agents, and those operating in the fields of finance, entertainment, and communications.

In addition to assisting athletes attend the Asian Games, the funds will also be used to training local junior sportsmen.

KTO chief representative in VietnamKang Sungghil said all contributions from donors will be sent to the Vietnam National Olympic Committee.

Kang revealed that the Korean Tourism Year launched by his organization last year achieved positive results during which the number of Vietnamese visitors to the RoK saw a 10% increase, from 106,000 in 2012 to 117,000 in 2013.

In the first quarter of 2014, the RoK welcomed more than 34,000 Vietnamese tourists, up 38.7% from a year earlier, he reported.
