Museum to revive Pho Hien’s old days
More than 10,000 objects and documents featuring the historical and cultural values of Pho Hien (Hien Street) in the Red River Delta province of Hung Yen are expected to be displayed in 2015.
Construction of a large-scaled museum is already underway.
Covering more than 22,000 sq.m in the centre of Hung Yen city, the three-storey museum is estimated at a cost of nearly US$5.7 million.
Visitors will have the chance to explore the cultural quintessence of the Red River as well as the values of the nation’s cultural heritages.
Pho Hien used to be a bustling commercial port on the Red River, only second to Thang Long in the 16th -17th century. It was well-known among foreigner traders, especially those from China, Japan and the Netherlands.
Although Pho Hien is no longer crowded and busy as in the old days, an old architectural complex of the town remains intact, with nearly 60 historical and cultural relics.
Hung Yen has as many as 1,200 cultural and historical relics, of which 160 sites have been awarded the national heritage status, along with thousands of antique objects and documents.
