The Vietnam Learning Promotion Association marked its 10th anniversary at a ceremony in Hanoi on October 3. The organisation aims to build a learning society by 2010 to create favourable conditions for people from all walks of life to access education.

Reports delivered at the meeting said that during the past 10 years, the association has become a large social organisation involved in boosting activities of the regular education system from the kindergarten to tertiary levels. It has helped promote the nation’s learning tradition, encourage people from all walks of life to build the regular education system and create the chance for them to access education so as to increase their knowledge and promote social progress.

In his address, Nguyen Manh Cam, head of the Association’s Executive Board, said the association will cooperate with the education sector to realise the Government’s goal of building a learning society in the country in the 2006-2010 period. He said the model will be set up by combining the regular and irregular education systems into a network where everyone enjoys the right to learn and study.

To Huy Rua, a Party Central Committee Secretary and head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Culture and Ideology, said the association should perfect its organisation from the central to grassroots levels, renew its operations and develop the learning promotion network across the country to fulfil the task of building a learning society. In addition, he said it should study and propose amendments to legal documents regarding learning promotion to the Party, the National Assembly and the Government.

On this occasion, the association presented certificates of merit to individuals and collectives in recognition of their notable achievements in learning promotion activities.
