Since its WTO admission in 2007, Vietnam has emerged as a potential market for the Persian Gulf countries, especially Oman, said Oman Minister of National Economy, Ahmed Macki.

The minister paid an official visit to Vietnam from April 15 to 19 where he met Deputy Permanent Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung and held working sessions with Minister of Finance Vu Van Ninh, Minister of Industry and Trade Vu Huy Hoang, Minister of Planning and Investment Vo Hong Phuc and leaders of major local businesses.

Oman wants to cooperate with Vietnam in finance-banking, oil and gas, coal, real estate and resorts building, said Minister Ahmed Macki, adding that the country is also willing to train and receive Vietnamese guest workers.

Vietnam and Oman agreed to establish a Joint Committee to be co-chaired by the two countries’ Ministers of Trade. They also signed an agreement on double taxation avoidance and income tax evasion prevention. The agreement is expected to support stronger economic and investment relations between Vietnam, Oman and the Middle East region.
