Vietnam and the Republic of Korea (RoK) signed a co-operation deal in Seoul on May 24 to reinforce and develop the Red River banks.

The signatories were Vice Chairman of the Hanoi Municipal People’s Committee Do Hoang An and Seoul Mayor Lee Myung Park.

Under the agreement, Seoul will send experts to Hanoi to help the capital city develop a project on planning, reinforcement and exploitation of the Red River banks. The construction costs are expected to reach around US$5 million, of which Seoul will cover up to 90 percent.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mayor Lee Myung Park confirmed that with a great deal of experience in planning and developing RoK’s rivers, Seoul will help Hanoi to enhance the capacity of harnessing the flows of water and build a project to improve the river’s two banks.

In the future, Hanoi will work miracles with the Red River to develop its economic efficiency and culture, turning itself into one of the large cities of the world, the Mayor said.
