Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam Alse Sotolongo visited the Central Highlands province of Dak Nong on March 28 to seek opportunities for Cuba to cooperate with Vietnam in economics, education and healthcare.

Ambassador  Sotolongo was welcomed by Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Dang Duc Yen, who informed his guest of Dak Nong province's socio-economic development since it was established in January 2004.

Mr Yen said, Dak Nong province has made positive achievements in socio-economic development, with an average annual per capita income increasing from VND3.7 million to VND5.9 million and an average economic growth rate of nearly 14 percent a year. The Chairman added that over the past two years, the material and spiritual life of local people has been constantly improved while political security has been ensured.
In the future, Dak Nong province will focus on developing the industrial, agricultural and service sectors, with a focus on mineral exploitation and small-and medium hydro-power plant construction, the Chairman said.

The province will encourage both domestic and foreign-invested businesses to pour their capital into afforestation, forest product processing, ecological tourism, hydro-power plants and infrastructure construction, he added.
