Vietnam, Russia boost education cooperation

(VOV) - Over the past six decades, Russia has trained tens of thousands of Vietnamese scientists, managing personnel, and high-quality experts who have actively contributed to the country’s development.

The statement was made by participants at a roundtable conference on Vietnam-Russia education cooperation in Hanoi on November 7.

Participants emphasised that during their study in Russia, Vietnamese students received significant support and care from Russian teachers and friends.

They proposed accelerating exchanges among Russian alumni, organising conferences and talks in Hanoi to introduce Russian universities and promoting the teaching of Russian in Vietnam.

Currently, around 7,000 Vietnamese students are studying at Russian universities. More than 2,000 of them were granted scholarships under an educational co-operation agreement signed by the two governments.

The Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training and the Russian Ministry of Education and Science vowed to boost bilateral cooperation after a visit to Vietnam by President Vladimir Putin in November 2013. They expected to send around 1,000 Vietnamese students to Russia annually by 2015.
