Vietnam is deeply concerned about the armed conflict in South Ossetia, which has caused serious human and property losses for civilians and peace keeping troops there. Vietnam welcomes the cease-fire announcement by the Russian President and supports Russia and the international community’s efforts in finding peaceful solution to disputes and conflicts.

The Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson Le Dung confirmed this on August 14 in reply to reporters’ question on Russia’s action to restore peace in South Ossetia and new development in South Ossetia.

Mr Dung said that Vietnam welcomes the principles of resolving conflicts in South Ossetia and Apkhazia reached at a meeting between Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and French President Nicolas Sarkozy on August 12.
