Leading information technology (IT) experts from Japan and Vietnam met at a workshop in Hanoi on March 26 to share information and experiences in using IT to conserve electricity and warn of natural disasters.

They presented an overview of energy saving technologies, including the green energy technology used by advanced countries, as well as Japan’s latest applications for its projects in Vietnam.

Under a memorandum of understanding signed in September 2010, the Vietnamese Ministry of Information and Communications and Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications agreed to pilot some IT application projects in 2012.

The results of this pilot will provide the foundation for approving and expanding official development assistance (ODA) to develop a system for monitoring the environment and warning of natural disasters in Vietnam and other Southeast Asian countries.
