US Navy hospital ship to dock in Danang

(VOV) - The USNS Mercy (T-AH 19), a hospital ship, is headed for the Danang Port where it will complete a 12 day humanitarian mission on August 17-28 as part of the on-going US Navy-led Pacific Partnership 2015 (PP15) mission.

It will be accompanied by the Millinocket, a Military Sealift Command joint high speed vessel that will similarly conduct medical health exchanges, engineering engagements, and community relation events in cooperation with the Vietnam Navy.

While in Danang, medical staff aboard Mercy will perform roughly 25 surgical procedures working in conjunction with Operation Smile aboard the ship.

Meanwhile other PP15 personnel will work and train side-by-side with the community on civic service events, safety topics, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, water search and rescue, veterinarian care, and community outreach projects.

The PP15 participants on board Mercy and on the ground include personnel from the US, Australia, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Japan, and New Zealand. All PP15 personnel will work together with the Vietnam government and local community on various medical, dental, veterinary and civic action projects.

Now in its 10th iteration, the Pacific Partnership is the largest annual multilateral humanitarian assistance and disaster relief preparedness mission conducted in the Indo-Asia-Pacific Region.
