Denmark has committed to provide VND28 billion (US$1.34 million) in aid to help Vietnam maintain reduce poverty.

An agreement to this effect was signed by Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Bui Ba Bong and Deputy Head of Mission of Danish embassy in Vietnam, Lis Rosenhoml, in Hanoi on December 2.

The aid package aims to improve food security and livelihood to nearly 80,000 farmers through restoring production for the poorest households and those who were hardest hit by recent floods in the Mekong Delta provinces of An Giang, Dong Thap, Kien Giang and Hau Giang.

It is also expected to contribute to the Government’s efforts in helping Dong Thap province to continue its role as producer and supplier of rice varieties to regional provinces.

Ambassador Rosenhoml said the agreement is part of activities to mark the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries, adding that Denmark will continue trade cooperation with Vietnam in the future.

Vietnam is one of countries hardest hit by climate change, especially people in the Mekong Delta.
