Ms Nga answered reporters’ questions on Vietnam’s response to the House of Representatives’ H.Res.20, which calls for listing Vietnam as a ‘country of particular concern’ with respect to religious freedom.

The spokesperson stated that Vietnam is a multi-religious nation, where 80 percent of the population engage in some form of religious practices, and 22.3 million are followers of different religions. She stressed that world major religions such as Buddhism, Christianity, and Islam peacefully coexist and develop in the country.

The Vietnamese spokeswoman reiterated the Vietnamese Party and State’s consistent policy to respect and create the best conditions for ensuring freedom of religion and belief, which are enshrined in the Constitution and Vietnam’s legal documents.

Ms Nga confirmed that Vietnam is willing to engage in a dialogue with other parties, including the US, to bridge any discrepancies.
