Director of ActionAid International Vietnam (AVV), Phan Van Ngoc officially sent an official petition to the European Commission on June 1, asking it to reconsider its anti-dumping tariffs on Vietnamese leather shoes.

The petition says the EC decision will directly affect the daily lives of nearly one million workers in the leather shoe sector and supporting industries.

The petition comes from a report studying the impacts of the EC’s anti-dumping lawsuit on Vietnam’s leather footwear industry, which was conducted by AVV in collaboration with the Vietnam Leather and Footwear Association (Lefaso) in May 2006.

Along with the petition, a letter signed by more than 2,000 workers will be submitted to the hearings on the shoe dumping lawsuit in Brussels.
