The Spanish Red Cross has provided EUR12,000 in relief to flood victims in northern mountainous provinces which were hardest hit by storm Kammuri.

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies also plan to call on its members to raise funds for people in Vietnam’s flood-hit localities.

Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam Hu Qianwen last week announced a US$50,000 donation raised by the Chinese embassy staff to help the flood victims. The money was handed over to the Vietnam Red Cross (VRC) on August 20.

The VRC has provided nearly VND1 billion (US$600,000) as urgent aid to people in the three hardest hit provinces of Lao Cai, Yen Bai and Phu Tho. Its


VRC President Tran Ngoc Tang said the donation will help them overcome the calamity’s consequences and stabilise their lives.

*** Brunei King Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, on August 18, sent his sympathy to Vietnam over the great losses caused by recent floods to northern mountainous provinces.


The message was addressed to State President Nguyen Minh Triet and Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.


The floods, caused by storm Kammuri, occurred in Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Phu Tho, Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang and Son La provinces, leaving 125 dead or 38 missing by the end of August 13.
