'Chào Saigon' exhibit shows city dazzling in black and white
New exhibition "Chao Saigon" (Hello Saigon) displays 40 black and white photos taken by Nguyen Thanh Tung and enlarged on canvas.
Tung, a former photojournalist of the Saigon Times Group and a co-founder of photography website vnphoto.net, shot the pics in the past 20 years after moving from his hometown in Kien Giang Province.
We can see the development of the country’s busiest city through images of its markets, streets and residents.
These stunning pictures transport us to different corners of Saigon-Ho Chi Minh City, where we can hear the hooves of a horse trotting on the street, feel the sudden rain pouring on our skin, count the motorcycles passing through a tunnel, and smell the fresh fish at a local market.
“The 40 selected pictures capture the continuous change of Saigon over more than 20 years I has been living, studying and working there. The exhibition is the most sincere salute from a person who has stayed in and fallen in love with this city,” he said.
The exhibition is launched on the occasion of the city’s 40th anniversary of its liberation. It is also Tung’s present to his wife, who was born exactly on the liberation day, April 30, 40 years ago.
