The 2007 Central Highland Gong Culture Festival will take place in Buon Ma Thuot City and Buon Don District of Central Highland Dak Lak province this October with the participation of art gong troupes from such countries as Laos, Cambodia and Malaysia.

The festival aims to honour and promote the gong culture in Vietnam’s Central Highlands, which was recognized by UNESCO as world intangible cultural heritage. It will also introduce economic and cultural achievements by regional minority groups as well as the region’s tourism potential.

The festival will include many gong performances, ethnic musical instruments-making contests, elephant races, and photo exhibitions. Rites for hunting and taming elephants will also be presented.

During the festival, there will be seminars on production tools and utensils, the development of tamed elephants, the preservation of gong culture space and the art of making ethnic musical instruments.
