The Vietnamese leather and footwear sector has great potential to export leather and footwear products to Britain despite the European Committee’s (EC) dumping lawsuit against Vietnamese leather-capped shoes.

The information was affirmed at a recent meeting between the Vietnam Commercial Bureau and the British Ministry of Trade and Industry to discuss issues relating to the lawsuit.

The British Ministry of Trade and Industry said that, since the EC lodged the lawsuit against Vietnamese footwear products, Vietnam’s footwear export volume to Britain has remained unchanged. The ministry’s representatives also voiced support for Vietnam in the lawsuit.

Britain is one of the European Union’s large markets, and has high demand for footwear products, including leather hats, sport shoes, sandals and slippers.

In 2005, Vietnam earned a turnover of nearly US$300 million from leather and footwear products exported to the British market.
