The fifth congress of representatives of Vietnamese Catholics will take place in Hanoi from November 19-20 with the participation of 425 delegates, including 145 priests.

At a press briefing on the congress held in Hanoi on November 12, Father Phan Khac Tu, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Committee for Solidarity with Catholics said that the congress will review contributions by the Christian community to the country’s renovation over the past five years.

The congress is set to define orientations and tasks for the Vietnam Committee for Solidarity with Catholics during its 2008-2013 term, with the aim of increasing and strengthening the committee’s operations across all levels.

The congress will discuss revisions to the charter of the Vietnam Committee for Solidarity with Catholics to ensure it is suitable for any new requirements to enable it to operate more efficiently in the future.

The Vietnam Committee for Solidarity with Catholics is a member of the Vietnam Fatherland Front. It has to date established 39 municipal and provincial chapters.
