Vietnam currently has 2,017 craft villages and more than 1.4 million households are involved in making handicrafts, according to a recent statistics by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Statistics show that handicraft workers earn an income three or four times higher than farmers who only focus on agricultural cultivation. The poverty rate of households in craft villages is much lower than average poverty rate of the nation.

Meanwhile, a programme entitled “one village-one craft” will be launched this year to upgrade technical facilities and increase the competitiveness of handicraft products, thus raising average income per capital to VND700,000-VND750,000/month in rural craft villages.
