Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Sinh Hung has welcomed Mexican Senate President Jose Gonzalez Morfin, who is leading a high-ranking delegation on an official visit to Vietnam from January 11-13.

Speaking at the January 12 talks with President Morfin in Hanoi, NA Chairman Hung spoke highly of the visit, saying it demonstrates the time-honoured Vietnam-Mexico relationship and will contribute to strengthening the friendship between the Vietnamese NA and Mexican Senate, and the two nations in general.

He expressed his belief that the traditional relations and cooperation will continue to grow and flourish, especially in politics, trade, and culture.

The chief legislator affirmed Vietnam’s open foreign policy of cooperating with all countries around the world for peace and development.

He proposed that both sides enhance ties in economics, trade, investment, culture, society, and legislation.

The two legislative bodies should promote their coordination in supervision activities to accelerate the implementation of cooperation programmes and projects, he said, urging them to boost the exchange of delegations and parliamentarians.

He said Vietnam is willing to serve as a bridge connecting Mexico and other ASEAN countries, and that the country hopes to boost cooperation with Mexico and other American nations.

President Morfin expressed his thanks for the warm reception and affirmed that his visit aims to strengthen ties between the Mexican Senate and Vietnamese National Assembly.

He congratulated Vietnam on its recent socio-economic achievements and expressed his hope that both sides will speed up the implementation of projects for their mutual benefit.

During talks, both sides said they back the establishment of an inter-governmental committee and a cooperation agreement between the two parliaments, which they said will lay a firm foundation for the development of Vietnam-Mexico relations.

They also briefed each other on their respective country’s socio-economic situations and agreed to boost comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.
