A seminar themed “Raising awareness about compulsory labour” was held in Hanoi on December 3-4 by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) and the Hanoi Office of the International Labour Organsation (ILO).

According to the survey conducted by the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs and relevant agencies and organsations, no cases of forced labour were found in sensitive fields.

However, the working conditions in these fields were poor and need to be improved.

At the seminar, ILO experts spoke of Conventions 29 and 105 concerning forced or compulsory labour and the need to abolish forced labour as experienced in foreign countries.

Vietnam joined the Convention concerning forced or compulsory labour (ILO No. 29) in January 2007.
