Expanding co-operation with Latin American countries is an important part of Vietnam’s foreign policy, Deputy Foreign Minister Le Van Bang told his Ecuadorian counterpart Rafael Paredes earlier this week.

During his three-day visit to Ecuador from August 19-21, Mr Bang was received by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Integration Maria Fernanda Espinosa and held working sessions with representatives of the Ecuadorian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Petroleum and the Ecuadorian Petroleum Group (PetroEcuador).

Ecuadorian governmental officials said that they are eager to broaden Ecuador-Vietnam relations and have backed the Southeast Asian nation’s candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2008-09 term.

Deputy FM Bang and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Integration Maria Fernanda Espinosa signed an agreement on visa exemption for diplomatic and official passport holders of the two countries.
