Vietnam's efforts to fulfill the Common Effective Preferential Tariff Scheme for the ASEAN Free Trade Area (CEPT/AFTA) have been appreciated at the 20th Meeting of the AFTA Council in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The August 21 meeting praised Vietnam's transfer of all items under the temporary exclusion list (TEL) and sensitive list (SL) to CEPT.

Till now, Vietnam and six old ASEAN members, including Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand, have nearly completed the tax reduction plan under the CEPT/AFTA with over 53 percent and 60 percent, respectively, of the products having zero tariff rates.

Vietnam's Deputy Minister of Finance Truong Chi Trung and officials from other member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) attended the meeting to review the results of AFTA implementation and discuss future plans.
